When I learned at their rehearsal dinner that Lance and Abigail had theater backgrounds, a sly smile crossed my face. I knew they’d be game to try anything. And 24 hours later, as they kissed the sky with their second line all around them, I realized I was 100 percent right.

The destination weekend, with family and friends spanning from the west coast to Texas and New York, began at Broussard’s. Only a half dozen or so people spoke, but it was immediately clear that Lance and Abigail had a nucleus around that adores the love the two of them share.

With one of my favorite photographers to shoot with, Love is Rad Co, by my side, we begin the wedding day at one of my favorite prep spots for balconies, the Omni Royal Orleans. Abigail was radiant, and Lance’s reaction to her for the first look sells how much these two are obsessed with each other. After a quick trip to Exchange Place for some photos, it was back to the Omni Royal Orleans.

The weather was precisely what you were looking for during a courtyard spring wedding, and it made their personally written vows all the more special. You can see from the highlight video above that these two are something of poets, able to evocatively explain precisely what draws them to one another.

After a first kiss and a second line that sent us snaking through the French Quarter, the Bucktown All-Stars kicked off the party with a high energy set. RaynerShine Events and LKB Floral Design put together a lovely arrangement of table settings and flowers all around the dining hall to give it a warm, earthy feel.

The capper on the evening was Abigail’s father’s speech, where he belted out a tune from the Fiddler on the Roof while stressing the importance of savoring moments exactly like this. And judging from the emotions on Lance and Abigail’s face, they took the words to heart.
